What is MARCO?

The Medical Amateur Radio council is a group that promotes good will and fellowship among amateur radio operators worldwide, who are professionals in the healing arts, or who have an interest in the various medical, dental and allied fields which constitute the healing arts. Many of us are Health Care Hams!

We Meet on the Air to Share

The MARCO organization is open to all licensed amateur radio operators who are healthcare professionals, work in a related field, or are interested in health related topics.  MARCO conducts a weekly Grand Rounds on the Air (20m) net to discuss health related or ham radio topics and stream the audio online at www.marcoaudio.net.  Zoom simulcasts are often used to allow members without HF equipment to participate.

    Project ECHO was formed to offer an Extension For Community Healthcare Outcomes, a way to bring knowledge to those in need in treating patients in areas where they may not be available, or where training for providing programs for patients.  The project will be discussed as a possible adjunct for existing MARCO Projects

    This weekend on Sunday December 14th at 11 am eastern the Grand Rounds discussion will be led by Dr. Bob Conder, K4RLC, who is a Neuropsychologist.  He will discussing Sauna - Health and Happiness from Dry Heat.  This is one of Bob's academic interests that touches his personal life so the topic presented should be fascinating.

    Our Grand Rounds on the Air roundtable discussion today on December 7th is remembering Pearl Harbor and the medical advancements made due to the dedication of those who served, as well as those who supported soldiers and their families during WWII.

    Presenters Drs. Alanna (K4AAC) and Bob Conder (K4RLC) provided information on this subject based on years of their experience:

    Alanna is a member of the North Carolina Dept of Health and Human Services Injury and Violence Prevention Catastrophic Sport Injury Task Force. Her focus here is on K-12 sports.

    Bob added information from his work with the National Hockey League, as well as consulting with other pro sports, eg, MLB and NFL.

    The ARRL Foundation Officers and Board have announced the 2024 recipient of the MARCO Scholarship in the amount of $1000.00.  McKenzie Menefee, KI5MHA of Blanchard, OK was selected from an outstanding group of applicants.

    The 2025 ARRL Foundation Scholarship application period is expected to open in October.  There are over $700,000 in various scholarships available, see https://www.arrl.org/scholarship-program
